About This Role
The Nap and After Care Teacher is to oversee the Extended Day and After Care programs. At all times, except during nap when most of the children are on their cots, either the Assistant Teacher or the Lead Teacher will assist the Nap and After Care Teacher with the supervision of the children. The primary responsibility of the Nap and After Care Teacher is the safety and comfort of the children during lunch, nap, and free play.
What You'll Do
- Work as part of the Extended Day and After Care staffing team serving up to 16 children ages 2 to 6, with staffing maintained in accordance with applicable licensing ratios.
- Support the Lead and Assistant Teachers in the daily care, supervision, safety, and comfort of the children.
- Eat lunch with children and help with set-up and clean-up
- Set up nap cots and supervise children during nap.
- Supervise children who are awake during the rest period and assist in restoring ordinary staffing ratios as children awaken.
- Assist with children’s bathroom and diapering needs.
- Clean up classroom after activities.
- Attend first class meeting of the year and others as possible.
- Model the respectful behavior and speech expected within the school community.
- Assist with the authorized dismissal of children to their parents, guardians, or other approved caregivers.
- Communicate warmly and professionally with families, faculty, and staff.
- Help maintain classroom materials, shared spaces, the playground, and the outdoor environment.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Education:
- High school diploma or related college-level course work preferred
- Waldorf training or study preferred
- Experience:
- Related work with children, preferably in a classroom setting
- Study of Waldorf pedagogy
- Skills, etc.:
- Works well with children
- Good communication skills
- Calm, gentle manner
- Well-organized, efficient
- Works cooperatively in groups
- Proficiency in handwork (knitting, sewing, etc.) or woodwork preferred
- Musical ability, especially singing
- Reliability and punctuality
- Willingness to learn and implement the school’s Waldorf educational approach
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to sit on the floor, bend, lift and arrange cots, and physically assist young children as necessary
- Ability to remain attentive and actively supervise children during extended quiet and rest periods
